THE MERCER ISLAND CROSSFIT TEAM
Owner, Head Coach
Corey started CrossFit in 2008 to supplement his triathlon training and found that the better he got at CrossFit, the better he performed at his races. CrossFit soon became his main sport as it met the competitive drive and athletic performance he missed after graduating from college, where he played club level hockey.
Corey quickly became certified, started a small group in Seattle Park, then obtained space at SJCC. As the program there grew, Mercer Island CrossFit came together and is now the gym that stands today.
In Corey’s words: “As a coach, my job and my passion are to help people live better, healthier, and more fulfilling lives. I strive to be a teacher, not to just plan a workout.”
Co-Owner/CrossFit Kids Director
Allison’s passion lies in teaching our youth that being active, healthy and fit is fun. With her background as a mental health therapist, she creates a well-rounded kids program that incorporates not only fun and fitness but also life skills like emotional regulation, social skill building, and coping skills.
Allison also has an athletic background in volleyball and softball and enjoys putting all her hard-earned fitness to work by taking it outdoors for hikes, backpacking trips, mountaineering, and snowboarding. In the same way that she aims to teach kids the value of being active, she wants to instill that in her adult athletes as well so that they are able to enjoy the things they love most in the best way possible.
In Allison’s words: “My goal is to make the next generation more healthy and fit by adding fun to it at a young age. My background in mental health therapy also allows me to incorporate social skill building, emotion regulation and coping skills into the classes and watch the kids develop these through hard work, fitness and fun!”
Head Coach/Gym Manager
Starting in 5th grade, Connor spent the majority of his time competing in lacrosse. He continued until college when he decided to try something new. CrossFit was the perfect activity to fill the void left by organized sports. He used the workouts to supplement his strength and conditioning routine. The more he trained, the more he realized how much harder and effective it was on his body. He’d found a new past time and a new career.
In Connor’s words, “The best part of coaching is pushing people through barriers that have been holding them back. I love seeing how their sense of accomplishment positively affects other aspects of their lives.”
Scott came across CrossFit when he followed “these crazy people” running in and out of a gym with weights and found himself in a CrossFit gym. He was hooked from his first class, and five years after the fateful day he decided to follow some crazy people, he finds himself as a coach who is passionate about the people and idea behind Mercer Island CrossFit.
In Scott’s words: “What’s really special is being part of the Mercer Island CrossFit community is that this community loves to sweat, laugh, strive and progress. As a coach, knowing you helped them achieve something they never thought possible makes it all worthwhile.”
Jon is no stranger to sports. If it involves being active, he’s done it. Surfing, swimming, skiing, motocross, off-road racing, kayaking, triathlons, and obstacle races are just a few. As a CrossFitter, he approaches training in a similar way; some seasons he focuses heavily on endurance, and others Olympic weightlifting but through it all, he is about giving 100%. As a coach, he loves seeing everyone put in that same effort and accomplishing so much in their journeys.
In Jon’s words: “Transforming yourself later in life to have the strength, conditioning, and endurance to do things you couldn’t do even back when in high school is something you just have to share. The transformation that comes from CrossFit is more than physical – it changes how you view challenges and obstacles in all areas of your life.”
Patrick has always had an interest in fitness and spent years at traditional gyms. When he found CrossFit, he knew he wanted to get involved with the methodology and community. Patrick believes in CrossFit as a complete athletic workout and has a desire to continue to learn and push himself as he helps others on their own fitness journeys.
In Patrick’s words: I’m most passionate about “…getting athletes excited about CrossFit and introducing friends to the CrossFit community.”
CrossFit Kids Assistant Coach
Jessi joins Mercer Island CrossFit with a 15+ year background in working with kids and is the Development Director at Youth Theatre Northwest. Finding a love for CrossFit was just another way to express her passion for working with today’s youth. She is happy to join a group of people who encourage an atmosphere of community and welcome its youngest members.
In Jessi’s words: “Due to technology and growing pressure on kids to succeed, kids are lacking in physical activity and the Crossfit program is a wonderful way to introduce kids and teens to healthy living and exercise in a safe and supportive atmosphere.”
